Matt Fitzpatrick has been voted the European Tour’s Golfer of the Month
Englishman Matt Fitzpatrick has been named Golfer of the Month for October after claiming his first win of the season with a thrilling victory at the Estrella Damm N.A. Andalucía Masters. Played across the famed Real Club Valderrama layout, Fitzpatrick fired rounds of 71-68-70-69 to win by three shots, highlighted by his bogey-free final round at the tough venue in Southern Spain.
Fitzpatrick will head to the season ending DP World Tour Championship at fifth in the Race to Dubai standing and will going for a hattrick of titles across the Earth Course at Jumeriah Golf Estates.
Rafa Cabrera-Bello finished second in the voting courtesy of his win at the ACCIONA Open de Espana in Madrid. The win was Cabrera-Bello’s first since the Scottish Open in 2017 and was just his second top-10 finish of this season after an up and down year.
Danny Willett came third in the voting after picking up his first win in two years at the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship. The iconic Pro-Am event returned to the schedule this year after a year’s absence and Links Course lover Willett took full advantage across the three courses of St. Andrews, Kingsbarns and Carnoustie.
Rounding off the voting was Jeff Winther, who won his first European Tour title at the Mallorca Golf Open at the end of the autumn Spanish swing. The Dane led the way after two rounds of 62 in the first three days before putting together a gritty final round to clinch a one stroke victory at Golf Santa Ponsa.
