European Tour Member Peter Fowler secured one of the four available places at this year’s Open Championship at the International Final Qualifying event in his native Australia with a course record of nine under par 64 in the second and final round at the Lakes Golf Course in Sydney.
Fowler had opened his bid to make The 136th Open Championship at Carnoustie, from July 19-22, with a one over par 73, but he surged through the field during the second round to take second place behind countryman Ewan Porter, whose 11 under par two round aggregate saw him win Australasia’s Final Qualifying event by three strokes.
Another two Australians, Ben Bunny and Scott Laylock, took the last two places after a three man play-off with Chris Campbell.
