A professional golfer often has particular courses which ‘suit his eye’, and for Marcus Fraser Hong Kong Golf Club is one of those.
The Australian returns to the Hong Kong Open this week knowing he can turn it on around the 6734-yard, par 70 track, having not finished worse then tied 11th in his previous three visits.
Last year he took third place thanks to a fine final round of 64, and recalled: “It was a good, fun week, which it always is here. It was a nice finish. The course sets up well for me. It’s not that long and it’s quite fiddly with small greens. That suits my game and what I do on the course. It just suits my eye and I tend to do well.
“I love this tournament and love this golf course, and I’ve got some pretty good memories here so hopefully I’ll have more this week.
“It’s always nice coming back to a place where you know you play well and have done well in the past.
“The whole place has got that country club feel to it. It’s very exclusive to be a member here and we’re very lucky to be able to come back and play it every year.”
Fraser played on home soil in last week’s Australian Open, and next week heads to the Thailand Golf Championship, so he admitted he is feeling a little jaded at the end of what has been a busy year.
“There’s a little bit of fatigue creeping in at this time of year,” he said. “It’s a busy end to the year but I’m looking forward to having a good couple of weeks to finish and then having a good break over Christmas.
“My form wasn’t very good in the pro-am this morning so I’m off to the range to sort that out. Hopefully I’ve got all the rubbish out the way today. I’ll do a little bit of work this afternoon then I’ll be relaxing before an early tee time tomorrow.”
