Genworth Stats Pack - BMW International Open Preview

This week the Genworth Stats Pack heads to Germany for the 25th staging of the BMW International Open, to be held at Golfclub München Eichenried. Our preview highlights some of the marquee names that will be competing as well as those with form coming into the event.

Ernie ELS

Ernie Els has competed in this event on 5 previous occasions (with a best of 5th at this venue in 2000) and he arrives in excellent form off the back of a 6th place finish at the BMW PGA Championship and a 4th place finish at the US Open. Looking at his Genworth Statistics since the beginning of March, the 43 year old South African ranks quite low for both Driving Accuracy and Greens in Regulation, but they are as a result of an extremely difficult schedule of events. More impressively, the Big Easy ranks 10th for Par 3 Scoring, 2nd for Par 5 Scoring and 1st for Eagles per Round, plus his Genworth Putting Statistics are very strong.

Martin KAYMER

Martin Kaymer has competed in this event on 8 previous occasions (taking the title at this venue in 2008) but he arrives off the back of some average performances by his standards. Looking at his Genworth Statistics since the beginning of March, the 28 year old golfer from Germany ranks low in numerous categories, but the same as Els, they are distorted as a result of a difficult schedule of events. Martin is however performing very well on the Par 5 holes, hitting an incredible 37.5% of the Par 5 Greens in sub-regulation two shots (ranking 1st). The 10 time European Tour winner will have plenty of home support this week.

Matteo MANASSERO

Matteo Manassero has competed in this event on 2 previous occasions (with a best of 14th at this venue in 2011) and he arrives in great form off the back of a win at the BMW PGA Championship a few weeks ago. Considering the tough schedule of events that he has played since the beginning of March, the 20 year old Italian maestro ranks steadily for Driving Accuracy and Greens in Regulation (we of course know that he is not the longest of hitters), but his touch around the greens has been sublime. Matteo is making few mistakes per round and achieving a ranking of 6th for the Genworth Stroke Average statistic over the period.

Sergio GARCIA

Sergio Garcia has competed in this event on 5 previous occasions with a best of 2nd when it was last held here at Golfclub München Eichenried in 2011. He arrives in pretty good form considering all of the media attention of recent weeks, with his Genworth Statistics since the beginning of March showing some straight driving and a good number of Greens in Regulation (over a tough schedule of events). The 33 year old Spanish golfer also ranks 1st for Par 5 Scoring over the period (a world class 4.50).

Genworth
Ambassador

Pablo LARRAZÁBAL

Genworth Ambassador Pablo Larrazábal has competed in this event on 5 previous occasions, winning the last time it was held at this venue in 2011 (he also finished 3rd here in 2010). His Genworth Statistics since the beginning of March highlight great consistency, ranking 4th for Stroke Average, 13th for Greens in Regulation, 11th for Putts per GIR, 2nd for Par 4 Scoring and 7th for Birdies per Round, plus he is making fewer than two Bogeys per Round. The 30 year old Spanish golfer has been knocking on the door for weeks now and a win is surely not far away.

Joost LUITEN

Joost Luiten has competed in this event on 4 previous occasions (with a best of 3rd at this venue in 2011) and he arrives off the back of a win in Austria, so spirits will be high. Looking at his Genworth Statistics since the beginning of March, the 27 year old golfer from the Netherlands is showing very impressive long game statistics, ranking 13th for Driving Accuracy and 14th for Greens in Regulation, plus he is scrambling for Par at over 60% (all equating to very few mistakes in comparison to most other players). Back to back wins are definitely on the cards.

Henrik STENSON

Henrik Stenson has competed in this event on 9 previous occasions (taking the title at this venue in 2006) and he arrives off the back of a steady run of results and a decent finish at the US Open. Due to the 37 year old Swedish golfer playing a difficult schedule of events, his recent Genworth Statistics are quite distorted. Much the same as Martin Kaymer though, Henrik is performing extremely well on the Par 5 holes and he is expected to go well.

Peter UIHLEIN

Peter Uihlein competes at this event for the first time this week and he arrives in great form off the back of a string of good results (including a win in Madeira). Looking at his Genworth Statistics since the beginning of March, the long hitting 23 year old talent from the United States is performing well across the different hole types (being the Par 3’s / Par 4’s / Par 5’s) and he is making his fair share of eagles and birdies. Peter is also a dab hand with the putter.

Brett RUMFORD

Brett Rumford has competed in this event on 10 previous occasions (with a best of 2nd at this venue in 2005) and he arrives off the back of a few weeks break following his heroic back to back victories last month. Looking at his Genworth Statistics since the beginning of March, we can see that the 35 year old Australian actually ranks quite low for each of the long game categories, but his putting is second to none (the back to back wins highlighted arguably the best stretch of putting ever on the European Tour). It will be interesting to see how the 5 time European Tour winner performs this week.

Thomas BJÖRN

Thomas Björn has competed in this event on 15 previous occasions (taking the title at this venue in 2002) and he arrives in confident mood with three top 10’s from his last four starts. Looking at his Genworth Statistics since the beginning of March, the 42 year old Great Dane is driving the ball straight and hitting a decent number of Greens in Regulation, but it is his putting that stands out as being the best part of his game at the moment.

David HORSEY

David Horsey has competed in this event on 3 previous occasions (taking the title at this venue in 2010) and although he arrives having missed his last two cuts, it should be highlighted that he finished inside the top six in the three events prior to that. Looking at his Genworth Statistics since the beginning of March, the 28 year old Englishman is showing an excellent touch on and around the greens, leading to a good number of birdies, few dropped shots per round and an overall Stroke Average ranking of 9th. David seems to like this course and may be the dark horse this week.
