Genworth Stats Pack - Round 1 Review

Anirban Lahiri converted two eagles and five birdies against a single bogey on his way to a terrific opening 63, to lead by two. Looking at his Genworth Statistics, the 26 year old Indian golfer drove the ball steadily off the tee but he didn’t hit quite as many greens as you would think for such a low round. He did however putt the best of all the players in the field, ranking either 1st or 2nd in all three of the official Gentworth putting categories. We should also draw attention to his Par 4 Scoring and Par 5 Scoring, which were both exceptional.

Paul Casey converted one eagle and five birdies against a single bogey on his way to an opening 65. Looking at his Genworth Statistics, the 36 year old English golfer produced some powerful long game figures, ranking 9th for Driving Accuracy (with 10/13 fairways), 2nd for Driving Distance (averaging a huge 345 yards off the tee) and 10th for Greens in Regulation (with 14/18 greens). Having won in Ireland recently, Paul is looking more and more like his old best each time we see him.

Tommy Fleetwood converted one eagle and six birdies against two bogeys on his way to an opening 65. Looking at his Genworth Statistics, the 22 year old English talent looks strong across the board, ranking 9th for Driving Accuracy, 3rd for Greens in Regulation and 29th for Putts per Round. A winner just two weeks ago in Scotland, Tommy looks to be progressing to a new level in his young golfing career.

Miguel Angel Jiménez converted seven birdies against a single bogey on his way to an opening 65. Looking at his Genworth Statistics, the 49 year old Spanish maestro (who is competing in his 24th Omega European Masters this week) is also looking strong in most departments of the game, hitting lots of greens and chipping and putting well. Miguel’s professional record of 19 European Tour victories, 17 second place finishes and 13 third place finishes is simply outstanding, and he is still going strong.

Thomas Björn deserves a special mention for being the only player to navigate the new and improved Crans-sur-Sierre layout without dropping a single shot on day 1. Looking at his Genworth Statistics, the 42 year old Great Dane performed well off the tee and hit a steady 12/18 greens, but he scrambled for Par 6/6 times on the greens that he missed, which just goes to show the importance of missing in the right spots when not quite pulling off the perfect shot.
