Global cast set for Indian Open

The 2015 Hero Indian Open will welcome a hugely talented field featuring a host of Members from The European and Asian Tours, who have collectively amassed over 160 titles.

The European contingent has more than 60 wins on The European Tour, while Asia’s finest can boast more than 100 Asian Tour victories. In addition, the players in the field have won another 40-odd titles on other recognised Tours around the world.

With a cumulative total of five players from the top 100 in the Official World Golf Ranking, 16 players from the top 100 in the final 2014 Race to Dubai rankings, and 27 from the Top 30 of the Asian Tour’s 2014 Order of Merit, the field is set to be one of the strongest ever assembled in India.

The 2015 Hero Indian Open will be held from February 19-22 at the par-71 Delhi Golf Club.

The growing legion of Indian golf fans will also have plenty to whet the appetite with every single top home-grown player entering the event, including the famed ‘Big Three’ of Indian golf – Jeev Milkha Singh, Arjun Atwal and Jyoti Randhawa, who between them have won more than 30 titles on the Asian, European, US and Japanese Tours.

Anirban Lahiri, Gaganjeet Bhullar, Shiv Kapur, SSP Chowrasia and the latest superstar, 23-year-old Rashid Khan will also be in action in Delhi.

Indian golf experienced a superb year in 2014, as its professional stars won no less than six titles on Asian Tour – the most by any country during the season. The 27-year-old Lahiri, now the highest-ranked Indian in the Official World Golf Ranking, and Khan won two titles each last season, while Chowrasia and Atwal won once each. Another Indian victory came on the Asian Development Tour, from promising youngster S Chikkarangappa, who is mentored by former India cricket captain Rahul Dravid.

The entry list also features 12 winners from 31 countries across Asia and the world, who between them won 15 events on the Asian Tour’s 2014 schedule.

From the European Tour contingent, as many as five players that racked up seven titles in The 2014 Race to Dubai will feature, with Frenchman Alexander Levy and Spain's Miguel Angel Jiménez each winning twice. Dane Thorbjørn Olesen, Australian Scott Hend and Swede Mikael Lundberg are the other 2014 winners to join the field for what will be the 51st edition of the historic tournament, one of the flagship events of the Asian Tour.

The star cast also includes Asia’s most successful winner of all time, Thaworn Wiratchant, who has 18 titles on Asian Tour, and all of the Hero Indian Open champions from 2004 onwards.
