Argentina’’s Rafael Gomez, who joins The European Tour this season after graduating from the Challenge Tour, shot an impressive nine under par 63 to hold the outright lead after the opening round of the inaugural Roberto De Vicenzo Classic.
Gomez made ten birdies and only one bogey at San Eliseo Golf & CC, home of the thirteenth event of the 2005 Tour de las Americas’’ season.
Gomez played in the morning and his 63 stood all day. Hernan Rey, who played on The 2005 European Tour, cut the lead to three after the 16th, but bogeyed the 18th to finish second on five under par 67. Mauricio Molina and Andres Romero share the third spot at 69.
