Goosen claims place at PGA Grand Slam of Golf.

World Number Seven and current US Open Champion Retief Goosen has earned a place at the PGA Grand Slam of Golf following his dramatic victory at Shinnecock Hills Golf Club earlier this month.

European Tour Member Goosen won the US Open for the second time this decade and consequently earned his second start at the PGA Grand Slam of Golf, the event sporting a $1,000,000 purse.

A close friend of Goosen, and fellow South African Ernie Els, is the first alternate for this prestigious event based on a Major Championship Points List following his runners up finish in the Masters Tournament and joint ninth finish in the US Open Championship.

This year, the PGA Grand Slam of Golf will be played from December 3-4, at Poipu Bay Golf Course & Hyatt Regency Kauai in Hawaii.

Goosen previously played in this event in 2001, where he finished third in the four-man field, after his victory in the US Open that year, where he defeated Mark Brooks in a dramatic play-off.

This event will be broadcasted by TNT on Friday, December 3, from 3.30-7.pm Eastern Time, and 12.30-4.00 p.m., Pacific Time. Coverage will finish on Saturday, December 8, from 4.00-7.00 p.m. Eastern Time and 1.00-4.00 p.m., Pacific Time.

The PGA Grand Slam of Golf has a difficult qualification scheme, bringing together only those that have won a Major Championship during the year, either the Masters Tournament, the US Open Championship, the US PGA Championship or the Open Championship, which this year is taking place at Royal Troon Golf Club.

This event is extremely poplar, and is televised to some 86.7 million homes in the USA alone, as well as over 100 countries worldwide. The PGA Grand Slam of Golf is a 36-hole strokeplay event, which takes place over two days.

Goosen will join Phil Mickleson, winner of the Masters Tournament at Augusta National Golf Club, in the field for this event. The other two places will be given to the winner of the Open Championship, played from July 15-18, and the winner of the US PGA Championship, played from August 12-15 at Whistling Straits Golf Course in Wisconsin.

The winner of this event will earn $400,000 out of the prize fund of $1,000,000.
