Retief Goosen kept mistakes to a minimum as he secured victory in the Smurfit European Open with some stunning approach play over the testing Smurfit Course at The K Club, according to the Reuters Statistics.
The US Open Champion only dropped four strokes over the four days with two bogey free rounds, a good return on any course but especially over the Smurfit Course, used for the first time on The European Tour International Schedule last week.
The Reuters Statistics particularly highlight the accuracy of the South African’’s approach play as he led the Greens in Regulation Category, hitting an impressive 83.3% of the greens in regulation over the four days, equating to 15 out of 18 per round.
While he was hitting a very high proportion of the greens in regulation, he was also putting well, averaging less than 30 putts per round and 26.5 putts per green in regulation.
