Former Volvo Order of Merit winner Retief Goosen finished third in the Ford Championship at Doral after missing out on a play-off by a stroke, with Europe’’s Ryder Cup Captain Bernhard Langer also putting up an impressive performance to finish in a share of fifth place.
Goosen closed with a 69 round Doral’’s “Blue Monster” course for a 16 under par total of 272, one adrift of Craig Parry and Scott Verplank. Parry then went on to win the play-off when he holed a six iron from 176 yards at the first extra hole to defeat a stunned Verplank.
Langer shot a closing 65 to finish in a four-way tie for fifth place on 274, 14 under par.
