Having impressed in 2015’s Major Championships and starred in last month’s Presidents Cup, Branden Grace gets his Final Series campaign underway this week hoping to capture his first World Golf Championship title at the WGC-HSBC Champions in Shanghai.
The South African followed up two European Tour titles in the early part of the 2015 season with a strong showing on golf’s grandest stage in the summer, finishing in the top four in both the US Open and the US PGA Championship, and tying for 20th position in The Open Championship.
Currently sixth on the Race to Dubai, Grace also excelled at the Presidents Cup in Korea, claiming a flawless haul of five points for the International Team, and he is now targeting a victory at Sheshan International Golf Club to boost his chances of finishing an impressive year as the European Tour’s Number One.
“It was nice playing so well in the Majors and knowing that I can do it,” said the World Number 22. “I got close in the US Open and then gives you that feeling to just want to grab the next one and I think that led into the The Open, where I may be tried a little bit too hard. But at the US PGA, I was a bit more relaxed again and went for it from there.
“Coming to this event, it's pretty much the same. This is for us almost as big as a Major, so you definitely want to contend here. And you've got the best players in the world again. If you can beat them on a world stage like this, then you know you're doing something right.
“I'm sixth on The Race to Dubai at the moment, so there's still a good chance of getting it done. You just need one good win or one good finish and then you're right up there. Then it is all to play for in the last two events.
“I'm excited. I like all three courses going in now, so hopefully I can do well over the next three weeks.”
