Open de France Champion Jean-Francois Remesy and the Australian duo of Richard Green and Peter O’’Malley will take their places in the 133rd Open Golf Championship at Royal Troon from July 15-18 having earned exemptions at the conclusion of the Smurfit European Open.
Frenchman Remesy and Green, who finished joint second in both the Open de France and the Smurfit European Open in successive weeks, qualified as the top two players, not otherwise exempt, from the cumulative money list which ran from the Deutsche Bank – SAP Open TPC of Europe to the Smurfit European Open.
O’’Malley, joint second with Green and England’’s Lee Westwood at The K Club, earned his place from the event itself as the leading player not otherwise exempt
”I am in terrific form at the moment and I have been making good progress since last August,” said Green. “My game is getting to where it needs to be and I am starting to reap the rewards, I’’ve been banging on the door for some time now and hopefully the hinges are hanging off!”
O’’Malley’’s performance continued a superb recent run of form and indeed in his last five tournaments the Australian has finished in a share of 18th, 12th, tenth, sixth and now second. “It has been a fairly good week and I am getting better and better which is good for what is coming up,” said O’’Malley.
