Harold Henning

South African Harold Henning, winner of more than 50 worldwide golf tournaments including 14 in Europe, has died at the age of 69 after a lengthy illness.

Henning captured his first title in Europe when he won the 1957 Italian Open while his last victory on The European Tour came in the 1981 KLM Dutch Open. He also won three Swiss Open titles as well as victories in Denmark, England, Germany, Italy and Scotland.

In 1965 he partnered Gary Player to victory in the World Cup and won twice in the US PGA Tour. Upon joining the Champions Tour in 1984 he won a further three titles.

Henning also twice finished third in the Open Golf Championship, first in 1960 and again a decade later to Jack Nicklaus.

Henning is survived by his wife, Patricia, and three children, Hanley, Hayley and Harley. He also is survived by a sister and three brothers, including Brian "Bruno" Henning, who for more than 20 years was also a fixture on the Champions Tour, serving as that Tour's vice president of competitions.
