Horsfield keeps his nose in front

Sam Horsfield maintained his one shot lead as the Hero Open got set for a thrilling finish over the final nine holes at Forest of Arden Marriott Hotel & Country Club.

The Englishman entered day four with a one shot advantage and turned in 33 to maintain the narrowest of cushions but he had a building chasing pack behind him.

Welshman Oliver Farr is also looking for a first European Tour win and he was the closest competition, a shot clear of Danish teenager Rasmus Højgaard.

There was then a group of five players three shots off the lead.

Horsfield held a six shot lead at the turn on day three before he came home in 40, but should still be full of confidence after recording rounds of 61 and 63 over the past two weeks on the UK Swing.

He put his second to three feet on the opener and the 23-year-old also made the most of the par five third, with Højgaard following suit.

The leader could not get up and down from the rough at the side of the fifth green but he put an approach to 12 feet on the sixth and once again led by two.

Farr had dropped a shot on the first but he took advantage of the third and did even better at the par five seventh, putting his second to two feet for an eagle to trim the advantage.

But Horsfield was not in the mood to be caught and after a poor tee shot on the seventh, he found sand with his second and got up and down to move to 17 under.

Farr was not giving up the chase, though, and he put his second to four feet on the tough ninth and again cut the advantage to one.

Højgaard looked in trouble in the rough at the same hole but hit a remarkable second to two feet and was alone in third.

Home duo Richard Bland and Robert Rock, Belgian Thomas Detry, Finn Mikko Korhonen and Frenchman Matthieu Pavon were at 14 under.
