Former World Number Lee Westwood will give European Tour fans a unique insight into tournament golf when he wears a microphone for the opening two rounds of the Betfred British Masters at his home course Close House.
With the full resumption of the European Tour season taking place behind closed doors, the tournament host and his caddie Helen Storey will both be mic’d up, allowing fans at home the chance to listen in via the European Tour’s world feed broadcast.
Westwood tees off at 9.10am alongside defending champion Marcus Kinhult and 2018 champion Eddie Pepperell.
Fans will be able to listen in via the European Tour’s world feed broadcast with selected highlights from his round aired on the European Tour’s social media.
“It will be interesting,” said the Ryder Cup legend. “It’s not really been done much before. Myself and Helen will both be mic’d up for the first two rounds and you’ll be able to see what interesting conversations we have around the golf course.
“Obviously we will be talking a lot about what shots we have got but I’m sure we will throw in some other stuff like what we are going to have for dinner. She is a good psychologist keeping focused on the golf when it needs to be and taking my attention away when it doesn’t.”
The British Masters has a history of broadcast innovation since returning the European Tour’s schedule in 2015. Nick Dougherty, the Sky Sports commentator and former European Tour player, broke new ground when he wore a microphone at Woburn in 2015, speaking directly to the Sky commentators in the studio.
European Tour players will also continue to be interviewed during their rounds this week, as live action returns at Close House.
