Grégory Bourdy claimed his maiden European Tour title with the help of an inspired putter on the final day, topping the Putts per Round category in the Genworth Financial Statistics with an impressive 26.7 putts over the closing 18 holes. The Frenchman’s return was matched only by runner-up Sam Little, whose second place finish helped him secure his European Tour card for another season.

Both players had their own personal goals and, when the pressure was on, their putters stood up to the test. By comparison, Robert-Jan Derksen, tied for the lead going into the final round, dropped to 28th in the Putts per Round Category with 29 putts on the final day.

The Genworth Financial Statistics programme for the 2007 season reaches its conclusion at this week’s Volvo Masters with the Stroke Average, Putts per Green in Regulation and Scrambles categories among those still  to be decided. Justin Rose needs to shoot 11 under par at Valderrama to overtake Ernie Els in the Stroke Average category while Nick O’Hern is locked in a battle for both the Putts per Green in Regulation and Scrambles categories.
