In-form Fox hoping for final flourish in the Netherlands

Ryan Fox was happy to be feeling the right kind of nerves as he looked to end a six-week purple patch with a second win of the season at the 2022 Dutch Open.

The Kiwi won the Ras Al Khaimah Classic in February and then headed home to New Zealand for two months having missed his daughter's first steps while he had been away.

Since his return to the Northern Hemisphere in April he has been one of the form players on the DP World Tour, finishing 15th at the ISPS Handa Championship in Spain and then securing back-to-back top-tens before registering a tie for second at the Soudal Open.

He then made the cut at last week's US PGA Championship and will now head into the final round at Bernardus Golf just one shot off the lead.

Having done it the last few weeks, I certainty feel pretty happy to be there. They are the nerves you want to get going into the last round

“I wouldn’t say it is a comfortable situation yet but having done it the last few weeks, I certainty feel pretty happy to be there," he said. "They are the nerves you want to get going into the last round.

"Hopefully I can keep playing like I have been playing and if not I am certainly looking forward to a couple of weeks off, this is my sixth week in a row, so regardless of what happens tomorrow it has been a good run.”

A three-putt and a bad bit of luck saw Fox start round three in Cromvoirt bogey-bogey but he hit back to sign for a 70 that left him at nine under.

“I played really good today," he said. "The start was a funny one: I three-putted the first from nowhere from about 30 feet and hit the best drive of the week down two and landed in the middle of a sprinkler head and kicked straight back and went into the water, so it was an interesting start and after that I played great."

After a poor start to the season by his standards, Guido Migliozzi has now made four of his last five cuts and is back in the mix for a victory in the Netherlands.

The Italian was alongside Fox after also carding a 70 and was happy with his progress as he works on his game.

“It was tougher today," he said. "The wind was blowing very hard and the pin positions were tricky today, the course was playing different and it has been a great battle.

"A few little things on the course but I like the way I managed the round and I am fine with my score today.

“I approached this week with just going on the golf course and trying to make a different swing, because I am working very hard on my swing to get back in a great position.

"So great scores came and now I am in the mix, so tomorrow just enjoy everything and we try to go for it.”
