Northern Ireland’s Darren Clarke’s unerring accuracy with his irons was the key to his triumph at the BMW Asian Open. Clarke topped the overall Greens in Regulation category with 69.4 per cent, giving him the edge over his nearest challenger, Robert-Jan Derksen of Holland.
Clarke’s prodigious length off the tee also gave him the advantage over most of his rivals, as he finished fifth in the overall Driving Distance category with an average of 291.3 yards. In his final round Clarke’s driving accuracy was also exemplary, as he found 71.4 per cent of the fairways at Tomsong Shanghai Pudong Golf Club.
