European Tour Member Fredrik Jacobson of Sweden secured a place at The Open Championship with his runner-up finish at the AT&T National on the US PGA Tour.
Jacobson hit a final day 65 to finish on ten under par for the tournament at Congressional Country Club in Maryland, two strokes behind winner Anthony Kim of America.
The Swede dropped two shots at the par four third but soon made amends with back-to-back birdies at the seventh and eighth. A three at the par four 12th was followed by a run of four straight birdies from the 14th to complete rounds of 67-72-66-65.
Australian duo Nick O’Hern and Robert Allenby, also European Tour Members, finished in a six-way tie for third on nine under par.
Jacobson’s reward will be to tee up at The 137th Open Championship at Royal Birkdale in Lancashire, England.
He said: “I’ve been working really hard for a long time with my coach and it’s come together over the last couple of weeks, so I feel my form is good. I got a new driver last week which is working really well. I’ve also been excited with my putting over the last couple of weeks, and I would really like to play well at The Open.”
