Jiménez to promote the Open de Andalucía de Golf

The €1million Open de Andalucía de Golf from March 25-28 will be organised and promoted by Fade & Draw Target, the company owned by former champion Miguel Ángel Jiménez.

This will be the ninth edition of an event which started life as the Turespaña Masters Open de Andalucía in 1992, when Fiji’s Vijay Singh triumphed at Parador de Málaga Golf.

The tournament returned to the same venue in 1999, when Jiménez shot a course record 62 en route to taking the title with an aggregate score of 24 under par.

Located between Málaga and Torremolinos on the Costa del Sol, Parador de Málaga Golf was co-designed by Harry Colt and Tom Simpson and opened in 1929.

The course has undergone extensive renovation work over the last six months in preparation to host the Open de Andalucía de Golf.

A number of new pine and palm trees have been planted on the course, and new practice and chipping areas have also been built.

The par has been lowered to 70, with the 1st and 16th holes being reduced to par fours for the tournament.

The 17th green is now more protected with a new water hazard on the left-hand side, and all the bunkers have been clearly defined and re-designed, with some new ones also added.

Junta de Andalucía will be the main sponsors of the event, which was won last year by Denmark’s Søren Kjeldsen.
