Miguel Angel Jiménez’’s wonderful season continued in Germany when he not only captured the BMW International Open title at Golfclub München Nord-Eichenried for his fourth European Tour victory of the season, he also climbed 13 places to Number 23 on the Official World Golf Ranking, his highest ever placing.
The 40 year old Spaniard, who will be part of Europe’’s Ryder Cup Team at Oakland Hills in three weeks time, produced sensational golf in Munich, all four rounds under 69 for 21 under par total of 267 to beat Ryder Cup team-mate Thomas Levet of France by two shots. Levet moved up to World Number 43.
On the US PGA Tour, Woody Austin overcame Tim Herron with a birdie on the first extra hole to win the Buick Championship at the TPC at River Highlands. It was Austin’’s first US PGA Tour win since 1995 and he climbed 35 places in the Official World Golf Ranking to World Number 90.
Elsewhere, Steven Conran of Australian won the Hisamitsu-KBC Augusta on the Japan Golf Tour to breaks into the World Top 200 at number 176, while this week’’s other winners worldwide were England’’s Matthew King in the Skandia PGA Open on the European Challenge Tour, Brett Wetterich in the Envirocare Utah Classic on the Nationwide Tour in America, and Chris Wisler in the Bay Mills Open Players Championship, the final official event on the 2004 Canadian Tour.
