Joakim Lagergren needed a little help from his friend after finding himself on the rocks at the 2026 Qatar Masters.
When the Swede's tee-shot found trouble down the left side of the second hole, he thought he was facing an unplayable lie.
But after checking with the match referee, he was cleared for his hulking caddie Jesse Karlsson to start moving the obstructions - helping Lagergren to a par and, eventually, a second-round 66 and the clubhouse lead.
“I mean, he saved par for me there," Lagergren acknowledged after his round, the remainder of which contained four birdies and a closing eagle.
“When I came up to the ball, I was just, ‘Okay, this is unplayable’. And then, yes, I asked the referee, ‘Can we move these rocks?’. ‘Yeah, sure, if you can’.
“And obviously I've got a strong caddie, so he sorted it out, so I was able to hit it up on the green.”
Karlsson was interviewed alongside Lagergren and, when it was put to him that "you probably didn't think that this was in store for you today", responded simply: "No."
He said: “The last (stone) was pretty heavy. It was all the way down and flat, you know, so I had to dig pretty deep for that one.”
Lagergren responded with a wry smile when interviewer Gabbie Partington suggested a big lunch was in store for Karlsson, who replied: “Yes. Now we're going to go for a big lunch, that's for sure.”
Enjoy it Jesse, you've certainly earned it!
