The European Tour Golfer of the Month for January, Martin Kaymer of Germany, and rising star Rory McIlroy of Northern Ireland are amongst the nominations for the prestigious Johnnie Walker “Keep Walking” Golf Awards.
Hosted in conjunction with The European, Asian and Australasian Tours, the Awards recognise the performances of golfers during the previous season.
Korea’s KJ Choi, Chapchai Nirat of Thailand and China’s Liang Wen-chong have been nominated for the Johnnie Walker Asian Player of the Year, whilst America’s Tadd Fujikawa, Kaymer, McIlroy and Argentina’s Andres Romero have been named as the three contenders for the Johnnie Walker Young Player of the Year Award.
The three nominees for the Johnnie Walker Asian Rising Star Award, presented to the young Asian professional who has shown the most promise over the past 12 months, are Juvic Pagunsan of the Philippines, Malaysia’s Airil Rizman and Korea’s Lee Sung.
The annual Awards were established by Johnnie Walker more than a decade ago to reward outstanding achievement on the golf course.
Cristina Diezhandino, Acting Global Brand Director for Johnnie Walker, said: “We are delighted to announce the contenders in the running to win our 2007 Johnnie Walker “Keep Walking” Awards. These ten golfers have all demonstrated tremendous talent and determination, and have inspired us all.”
The winners of the three Awards, voted for by a panel of judges from The European, Asian and Australasian Tours, will be announced on Saturday March 1 at the US $2.5m Johnnie Walker Classic, to be played at the DLF Golf and Country Club in Gurgaon, just outside New Delhi, India.
