South African James Kingston will not forget the start of the new European Tour season in a hurry.
Kingston, back on home soil, birdied the first five holes of the Alfred Dunhill Championship at Leopard Creek.
Winner of the Mercedes-Benz Championship in Germany in September and a former South African Open champion, the 44 year old added a sixth birdie at the 18th.
He was joined on six under by compatriot Charl Schwartzel – who eagled the par five second.
One off the pace during the early exchanges were The 3 Irish Open winner Shane Lowry, Swede Pelle Edberg and France’s Gregory Bourdy.
Three-time winner of the event Ernie Els was among the afternoon starters.
