Moritz Lampert is relishing being back on The European Tour, but the three-time European Challenge Tour winner is expecting Made in Denmark to be a “brutal” return to the big time.
The 22 year old German has enjoyed a stunning year so far, earning instant promotion from the Challenge Tour thanks to a hat-trick of wins, having lost his European Tour card after just one season in 2013.
The most recent of those three victories was in the Azerbaijan Golf Challenge Open at the start of August, sealing his return to European golf’s top table.
Lampert, who is attached to European Tour Destination Golf Club St Leon-Rot, is determined to improve on his European Tour showing last year when he made just four of 22 cuts.
“Last year was tough. I put a lot of pressure on myself, but that attitude has changed. I take things a little easier,” he said.
“When I’m more relaxed, that is when I play my best. This week is going to be brutal though, with this wind. It’s going to be a good test of golf.”
He added: “Now I have to keep the feeling going that I have had and get used to playing tougher golf courses again.
“My game is in better shape than last year and I have become a better player, I would say.
“I’m looking forward to the challenge again and seeing how I compare to the best players in the world.”
Lampert’s turnaround has been remarkable and he is thrilled to be competing alongside some of European golf’s biggest names at Himmerland Golf & Spa Resort.
“I can’t really describe how fast everything has gone recently, going from playing on invites on the Challenge Tour to being back on the European Tour within ten weeks,” he reflected.
“Obviously I’m very happy and glad to be back. The whole atmosphere is different. It is a great golf course here, a very tough golf course. I can’t wait to get started tomorrow.
“Starting the season playing on invites on the Challenge Tour, my goal was to get into the Rolex Trophy next week. Now I don’t have to go. I didn’t expect it to happen this fast.
“I was hoping to win one or two tournaments this year and get into the top 15. I never expected it this fast.”
Lampert has tried to come to terms with his meteoric rise by taking some time out with his girlfriend.
“I came back from Azerbaijan and went to Rome for three days on holiday just to clear the head a little bit,” he said.
“I tried to sit down and think about what happened. The time off really helped to think about what I’m going to do for the rest of the year and set some new goals.”
He continued: “I’ll play this week, take the next one off and then play three in a row.
“I’m really looking forward to the rest of the year now, with the season ending on the Challenge Tour and the European Tour.”
