Downfield, Monifieth Links, Montrose Links and Panmure will again be the Local Final Qualifying courses for the 2007 Open Golf Championship at Carnoustie.
When The Open returned to Carnoustie in 1999 after a break of 24 years, two of the Final Qualifying courses played a crucial part in the destination of the Claret Jug as both Scotland’’s Paul Lawrie and Jean Van de Velde of France, two of the three players in the four-hole play-off came through Final Qualifying.
At Downfield, Lawrie, who went on to win The Open from Van de Velde and American Justin Leonard, qualified in a tie for sixth place with a score of 140 while Van de Velde led the qualifiers at Monifieth after a pair of 67’’s.
In 2007, Local Final Qualifying at the four courses will be played on Saturday 14th and Sunday 15th July when players will be attempting to gain one of the last remaining places into The Open field of 156.
