Macau glory for Gleeson

Australian David Gleeson won his first title in over six years with a final round 69 at the Macau Open on Sunday.

The European Tour Member, whose last success was the 2002 Volvo China Open, led the tournament from start to finish and recorded five birdies against three bogeys over his final 18 holes at Macau Golf and Country Club to card a second consecutive two under par round and win by three shots with a record total of 18 under par.

Chinese Taipei player Lin Wen-tang shot a five-under 66 to claim second on 15 under, while compatriot Kao Bo-song's 71 was good enough for third, a stroke further back

Gleeson revealed it was an aggressive approach that served him so well.

"I told my caddie at the start of the tournament that I wanted to win this week by as many shots as possible. I also told myself that if I don't go for it, I won't have a chance so I'm happy that I went for it this week," he said.

"I reached the little goals that I had set all day which proved to be the key. On the 18th hole, I just had to avoid the water and I knew I had it once the ball landed on the green."
