Marco Penge targets U.S. Open return amid ongoing issues with his health

Marco Penge is targeting the U.S. Open for his return to professional golf after announcing he is to take time away from the sport to focus on his health.

The Englishman’s decision comes after he revealed in the lead-up to last week’s US PGA Championship that he underwent an MRI scan after suffering from a sinus infection and vertigo symptoms.

Having suffered from a viral infection at the DP World Tour Championship in Dubai last November, Penge has since been impacted by recurring health issues.

As a result, he withdrew from the Sony Open in Hawaii in January, while he also pulled out of the Myrtle Beach Classic a week prior to the US PGA Championship.

But following a missed cut at the second men's Major Championship of the year he has decided to take an illness-enforced break from professional golf.

In an Instagram post on Sunday, he wrote: “This week didn’t go to the way I wanted to but that’s golf. Moving forward, I have decided that I am going to take some time off to get my health back to where it needs to be. Thank you for your support as always! I’ll be back soon!”

A three-time winner on the DP World Tour last season, Penge is in his first campaign as a dual member with the PGA TOUR.

Across 11 starts this year, his best result is a tie for fourth at the Valspar Championship in March.

While Penge is hopeful of being back in competitive action for the U.S. Open at Shinnecock Hills, his priority is ensuring a full recovery.

"I'll come back as soon as I feel fit and healthy," he told the DP World Tour. "That could be in two weeks or two months, I don't know right now.

"But I'm hoping for the U.S. Open. Sooner the better!"

The U.S. Open, the third of the four Majors in 2026, takes place at Shinnecock Hills Golf Club on Long Island, New York, from June 18-21.
