Over 70,000 people will come to watch Europe's top golfers compete for the Volvo PGA Championship, and the smooth running of the Championship would not be possible without the help of the hundreds of volunteer marshals on the course.
A total of 110 static marshals, all volunteers from local clubs, are needed on the course each day throughout the event. Eighteen clubs provide the marshals for the week, each club covering a hole, and 12 more mobile marshals will accompany the biggest matches.
Graham Wallage, chief marshal for the Championship, started planning for this year’s event just after Christmas. He said: "All the marshals are representing their club here. The quality of volunteers is excellent and they do a great job during the week."
All the volunteer marshals receive a guest ticket to the Championship and a certain number of slots to play in the Marshals Trophy later in the year. Their Trophy is contested over the West Course, with the pins set as closely as possible to the final Championship day positions. Each club either holds a ballot or plays their own competition to fill their designated slots.
The Championship would like to acknowledge with thanks all those Club volunteers marshalling the West Course this year :
