The great contribution to golf by Max Faulkner OBE, who died last February at the age of 88, will be recognised when Peter Alliss gives The Address at a Memorial Service for the 1951 Open Champion this month.
“There is so much to remember and appreciate about Max,” says world respected TV commentator Alliss, who as a rising young tournament star was among Faulkner’’s challengers when he won his title at Portrush 54 years ago.
There will also be Readings by Ryder Cup colleagues Bernard Gallacher and Tommy Horton.
A tribute to Max’’s life away from golf, as a dedicated family man, will be made by his son Guy.
Respect without excessive solemnity, Faulkner’’s approach to golf throughout his successful career, will also be observed in the choice of music – songs made popular by Frank Sinatra, always his favourite singer.
The Memorial Service, conducted by the Reverend Stephen Sizer on Monday, 23 May, will be held close to the Wentworth courses he loved – starting 11.30am at Christ Church, Christchurch Road, Virginia Water, Surrey.
