Graeme McDowell’s bid to claim an automatic Ryder Cup place will go to the wire after the Northern Irishman finished in a share of 38th at The Barclays.
The Northern Irishman currently sits in the ninth and final qualification spot, and could have strengthened his position with a sizeable haul of Official World Golf Ranking points in New Jersey.
But the former US Open Champion could only manage a closing 72 at Ridgewood Country Club to finish in a group at three under that also included European Number One Henrik Stenson.
That was 11 shots behind American winner Hunter Mahan, whose compatriot Cameron Tringale finished tied for second with Australians Stuart Appleby and Jason Day.
Ernie Els cut through the field with a final round 65 as the South African claimed a share of fifth on 11 under.
