England's Ross McGowan made a shaky start as he took a massive seven-shot lead into the final round of the Madrid Masters.
After two eagles and ten birdies in a magical third round 60 McGowan bogeyed the first and fourth and had his advantage cut to four by both compatriot Danny Willett and Finn Mikko Ilonen.
They had both advanced to 19 under, with Scot David Drysdale two further back.
South Africa’s Charl Schwartzel demonstrated that there were still plenty of scoring opportunities available at Centro Nacional de Golf as he moved to six under with three to play, reaching 14 under for the week in the process.
McGowan's lead was down to only three when Ilonen birdied the long fifth, but a seven footer for a matching four there appeared to settle him down.
Further birdies came on the sixth and ninth, and he was back to six in front.
Willett's hopes looked over when he hit a pitch out of bounds from the rough at the sixth green and ran up a triple bogey seven.
Ilonen birdied the tenth to make it a five stroke gap but holes were quickly running out with only seven to play.
