Rory McIlroy is aiming to build on his formidable start to 2015 at Wentworth Club this week, as he prepares to defend his BMW PGA Championship title.
The World Number One picked up the first trophy of a glittering 2014 campaign in Surrey 12 months ago, going on to add The Open Championship and US PGA Championship either side of a first World Golf Championships title in the Bridgestone Invitational.
However, the Northern Irishman’s achievements in 2015 are already threatening to surpass that, with his win at Quail Hollow on Sunday his third of the season after claiming the Dubai Dessert Classic and WGC-Cadillac Match Play.
McIlroy, who played in the Pro-Am this morning with One Direction’s Niall Horan and Manchester United legends Phil Neville and Paul Scholes, said: “I feel okay. I hit quite a few good shots out there but there were a few loose ones.
“I'll try to rest up again tonight and make sure I'm fresh and ready to go tomorrow. I'm feeling okay; I'll be good to go.
“There wasn't much adrenaline in the body there today, but once I step on the first tee tomorrow and get a card in my hand, that will be different.
“I've got off to a good start - three wins already this season.
“I would be disappointed if I wasn't to win one of the next three Majors. I think that's really what determines a good or a great season for me these days.”
Defending The European Tour’s Flagship Event marks the start of a busy fortnight for McIlroy, as the 26 year old then hosts the Dubai Duty Free Irish Open Hosted by the Rory Foundation at Royal county Down next week.
“My mind is focused on the next two weeks here and at The Irish Open,” he added. “I just want to try and finish off this stretch of golf as well as I can, and I get a couple weeks off after that.
“I’m fully focused on these two weeks and I’ll try to play as well as I can here, and then I'll put the clubs away for a few days, and then I'll turn my attention to the US Open.”
