The Alfred Dunhill Links Championship will welcome back World No. 6 and four-time Major Champion Rory McIlroy next month.
The Northern Irishman has finished runner-up at the tournament three times previously, including on his last two visits to the event, which runs a Pro-Am tournament alongside the regular 72-hole stroke play format.
McIlroy, who has five top tens on the European Tour this season, is looking forward to returning to the Scottish links courses of St Andrews, Carnoustie and Kingsbarns with the intention of claiming his first victory there.
"The Alfred Dunhill Links is a great, late season event and I really enjoy the format," said the 28 year old.
"I can’t wait to come back again in October and play over those three world-class courses I really respect."
McIlroy will be aiming to win in Scotland for the first time in his professional career and hopes the home crowd will spur him on to success.
"The support I’ve had from the Scottish and visiting fans has always been fantastic and I have had some wonderful memories on these courses.
"I won my European Tour card after the 2007 Championship and I’ve played with my Dad a couple of times since. It's always a very special experience and I've had times I’ll never forget.”
Joining McIlroy in the field will be fellow Major winners Ernie Els, Darren Clarke, Padraig Harrington, Martin Kaymer, Paul Lawrie, Graeme McDowell and Danny Willett.
Tyrrell Hatton will also return to defend the title he won by four shots last year, which included a St Andrews course record of 62 on Saturday.
