Northern Irishman Rory McIlroy has been named April Golfer of the Month presented by DP World after receiving 29.9 per cent of the public vote.

McIlroy arrived at Augusta National Golf Club with only one goal, win the one Major Championship needs to complete the career grand slam and to join the most exclusive club in golf.

Starting round one in the final group, McIlroy battled tough, blustery conditions around the famous Georgia layout, carding a first round 73. He then followed that with a 73 on Friday to comfortably make the cut before shooting 71 on Saturday to trail Scottie Scheffler by ten shots heading into the final round.

McIlroy got his final round off to the perfect start, making birdie on the first before making three more to card a front nine 32. His back nine produced much of the same, a chip in birdie on the tenth and an eagle on the par five 15th before one of the most emphatic finishes ever seen at Augusta National. After finding the greenside bunker with his approach, McIlroy holed out on the famous 18th green to close out a bogey-free 64 and finish in solo second.

Second in the voting was Irishman Shane Lowry with 26.1 per cent of the vote after a third place at the Masters, his best finish in the event. Lowry was near the top of the leaderboard throughout the entire week and if it wasn’t for a tough back nine on Saturday, would have been close behind Scheffler heading into the final round. Lowry finished the month eighth in the DP World Tour Rankings.

Spaniard Adri Arnaus came in third after winning his first DP World Tour title at the Catalunya Championship in his homeland. Played at PGA Catalunya Golf and Wellness, the field were tested in brutal conditions across the first two days where Arnaus carded rounds of 68-76-68-65 to finish in a tie with Oliver Bekker. The pair went head-to-head for six holes in a mammoth play-off where Arnaus finally won with a par.

Rounding off the voting was another Spaniard, Pablo Larrazábal, who won his second event of the season at the ISPS Handa Championship. Larrazábal carded a final round 62 in Spain to win by a single shot. This win was his second in four events and his seventh on the DP World Tour.
