Members book their places in the 133rd Open Golf Championship

Four European Tour Members – Simon Dyson, Martin Erlandsson, Andrew Oldcorn and Sven Strüver – along with Challenge Tour Member Jonathan Cheetham will take their places in the field for this week’’s 133rd Open Golf Championship at Royal Troon after coming through the Final Qualifying competition at various venues across Ayrshire.

Performance of the weekend came from England’’s Cheetham who led the four qualifiers at Irvine with rounds of 66 and 68 for a ten under par total of 134, one shot clear of Swede Erlandsson, who posted rounds of 68 and 67 for 135.

Irvine continued to be a profitable hunting ground for The European Tour contingent as it was the venue where Oldcorn and Strüver also progressed via the nerve-jangling play-off route. Oldcorn, the 2001 Volvo PGA champion, and three time European Tour winner Strüver both made it through when they recorded respective birdies on the first play-off hole.

Down the road at Glasgow Gailes there was further European Tour success when Dyson led the qualifiers after an assured weekend’’s showing. The 26 year old Englishman, who finished runner-up to Miguel Angel Jiménez in the BMW Asian Open in May, carded rounds of 65 and 72 for a total of 137 and a four shot winning margin.
