Michael Wareham, better known as “Laugher” and one of the great characters among the caddies on The European Tour, has died at the age of 60 after a battle with cancer.
“Laugher” was an ever present face among the caddies for more than 20 years caddieing for a host of leading players, although his greatest success came with Ken Brown during the 1980’s when they paired up for a number of victories and also in The Ryder Cup Matches.
He also enjoyed spells with the likes of Jack Nicklaus and Fuzzy Zoeller as well as leading European Tour players Thomas Björn, Mike Clayton, Paul Eales, Barry Lane, Wayne Riley, Justin Rose and Anthony Wall.
His home was Langley but “Laugher” could often be found at Sunningdale, either caddieing or enjoying a game of cards.
“Laugher” leaves his wife Carol and seven children. As a mark of respect for one of the most friendly faces on Tour, caddies will wear black armbands during the second round of the BMW International Open. The caddies are also organising a Pro-Am in his name to take place at Sunningdale.
