European Tour Member Edoardo Molinari put himself into contention for a spot in The 137th Open Championship through the International Final Qualifying - Africa, held at the Royal Johannesburg and Kensington Golf Club.
The Italian, who set the course record with a seven under par 64 in last year’s Joburg Open, is in a tie for seventh place with, among others, European Tour champion Darren Fichardt of South Africa, after opening rounds of 68.
Challenge Tour Members Warren Abery and Doug McGuigan, who trail leader Joshua Cuncliffe by one and two shots respectively, will also be hoping to claim one of the four qualifying places on offer.
The action concludes tomorrow, when a play-off will be used to decide the places in the event of a tie.
