Montgomerie to Play Victor Chandler British Masters

Colin Montgomerie will compete in the Victor Chandler British Masters on The Marquess Course at Woburn Golf & Country Club from May 30-June 2.

Montgomerie will be seeking to win the title for a second time - he was champion in 1998 - and add to his 26 wins on The European Tour International Schedule and 33 in total worldwide.

The five time Ryder Cup player has an impressive record in this prestigious tournament with no fewer than eight top ten finishes during the last decade and said:

"I am delighted to be playing in the Victor Chandler British Masters again. I thoroughly enjoyed playing the new Marquess Course last year. It's a fabulous venue. It is a very, very good golf course - a real jewel, a gem. I feel this will be another great championship and it goes without saying that I would love to win the title again.”

Montgomerie, of course, set an astonishing record of seven successive Volvo Order of Merit titles from 1993 to 1999 and he will face strong competition in the Victor Chandler British Masters.

Thomas Levet will be defending the title he won last year when he overcame Mathias Grönberg, David Howell and Robert Karlsson in a four-man play-off to become the first Frenchman to win a tournament on British soil since Arnaud Massy won The Open Championship in 1907.

The Victor Chandler British Masters has a total prize fund of £1.25 million (2,037,200 euro) with a first prize of £208,330 (345,079 euro).

The 2002 Victor Chandler British Masters will coincide with the playing of football's World Cup and spectators at Woburn will have the opportunity to also watch some of the matches on the big screen in the tented village including England's match against Sweden on June 2.

The Victor Chandler Betting Unit will be on site throughout the week offering the widest range of prices and bets on golf, football and other sports.

Adult tickets throughout the week are £18 per day with a £3 discount if booked before May 1st. Under 18s will receive free admittance and tickets for OAPs and students (over 18) are £10 per day. For advance ticket sales call 0870 010 9021.
