Colin Montgomerie, the defending champion and No.1 seed, will face No.3 seed Lee Westwood in the first all-British final of the Cisco World Match Play Championship since 1989. Montgomerie beat Vijay Singh 5 and 4 at Wentworth Club while Westwood recovered from two down with three to play to beat Ernie Els on the final green.
The 36-hole final will now be split over two days due to Saturday's weather interruption. The first 18 takes place today with the players returning to the course on Monday morning to complete the match - the fifth time Monday has been required in the 37-year history of the event.
Montgomerie is 26 under par for his two matches and admitted: "I would take that for the four rounds of the Volvo PGA here!
"I birdied the first yesterday and came out today and hit an eight iron stiff for a birdie. Vijay was on the back foot and having to press and press and I wasn't giving anything away."
Westwood, meanwhile, birdied the last three holes to pull off an unlikely victory which earned him a place in the final for the first time.
He holed from ten feet at the 34th, 35th and 36th then victory was secured when Els uncharacteristically missed from two feet to take the tie down the 37th.
Westwood said: "I'm a bit shell-shocked really. Pressure does strange things. It wasn't looking good at two down with three to play but I holed some good ten footers. Now I'm looking forward to the final. I know Monty is good around here."
