There’ll be a real festival feel to the 2017 BMW PGA Championship as household names from the world of music compete in the all-star Celebrity Pro-Am on Wednesday 24 May, before Status Quo and the Kaiser Chiefs round of the weekend in spectacular style, performing concerts on Saturday 27 and Sunday 28 May respectively.
New for 2017, “Acoustic Lunches” will also take place in the Championship Village on Thursday and Friday. Performing an extensive and varied repertoire of covers, Josh and Mike from ‘Fairvue’ will entertain fans during the lunch period on Thursday. Fresh from releasing her new EP,Never Change,Mahalia will then be performing on stage on Friday.
Wednesday’s Pro-Am has become the traditional curtain raiser to the BMW PGA Championship and will set up a fantastic four days of world-class entertainment as the British sporting summer gets into full swing.
Music is well represented and the all-star quintet of Ronan Keating, Brian McFadden, Keith Duffy, Keane frontman Tom Chaplin and Mike Rutherford will all be looking to hit the right notes as they take on the redeveloped Wentworth West Course.
The music entertainment extends beyond the course though. On Saturday night in the Championship Village, legendary rock band Status Quo will take to the stage and get the crowd jumping with an array of their classic hits including Rockin’ All Over the World, Whatever You Want, Down Down, and Caroline.
Then on Sunday night, after the 2017 BMW PGA Champion has been crowned, the Kaiser Chiefs will draw the tournament to a spectacular close as they headline the Show Stage, giving the fans the chance to rock the night away amidst the Bank Holiday weekend.
Tickets to enjoy the world class golf and entertainment are available onlinehere,including Twilight Ticketing offers. These allow general admission to the venue from 4pm on Saturday or Sunday evening, to enjoy the latter stages of the golf action and a 90-minute live music set.
Tom Chaplin and Mike Rutherford themselves were the music headliners in 2016 and they will be amongst a star-studded Pro-Am field which features a stellar line-up, including legendary names from the world of sport.
Manchester United trio Ryan Giggs, Paul Scholes and Peter Schmeichel spearhead a host of footballers taking to the tee, alongside the likes of Alan Shearer, Ian Wright, Robbie Fowler, Jamie Redknapp & Gianfranco Zola.
Cricket is also well represented with Brian Lara, Kevin Pietersen, Sir Ian Botham, Allan Lamb and Graeme Swann taking part, while record breaking Champion Jockey AP McCoy will be leading the charge from the world of horse racing. Teeing it up for the ladies will be keen golfers Jodie Kidd, Georgie Bingham and Naga Munchetty, taking their place among the stars.
