Nathan Kimsey thrilled to be in contention in Stellenbosch

Nathan Kimsey is relishing the chance to be in contention once again as the Englishman maintained his stellar form at the 2026 Investec South African Open Championship.

The 28-year-old has been in the form of his life as he aims to claim his maiden DP World Tour title at Stellenbosch Golf Club following a flawless five-under second round to sit one shot behind overnight leader Francesco Laporta.

Kimsey took advantage of calmer conditions on Friday morning to register a hat-trick of birdies from the second before adding further gains at the ninth and tenth in his 65, complimenting his opening round of 66 and reaching nine under at the halfway stage in South Africa.

His latest under-par round was the 13th in succession and he has been par or better in the last 21, dating back to the Crown Australia Open in December.

That brilliant run of scoring saw him produce one of the best results of his career when finishing fifth at last week's Magical Kenya Open presented by absa, and Kimsey is thrilled to be in the mix once again.

"Yeah really good, started off early this morning and played some really nice stuff early doors, holed a few putts and got that score going," Kimsey said.

"Made a lot of pars coming in, but the wind was starting to get up and it was getting a little tricky so really pleased with the day.

"A lot different (compared to) yesterday, obviously playing in the afternoon, the wind was up, it was gusty, swirling; it was tough to dial into that. But (today I) got a good nine or ten holes of pretty much no wind out there and nice fresh greens, so managed to take advantage.

"The game's been good. I had a really good week last week and it was fun being in the mix again over there in Kenya. I'm glad I could come out here and put few good rounds together to start the week, and put myself back in contention again.

"It's great, I love coming down here to South Africa. This part of the world is so beautiful, and the crowds are great. They love their golf and are really respectful, and I'm enjoying playing two more rounds this weekend in front of them."
