Nick Dougherty moved into the World’’s top 200 after holding off the challenge of final round playing partners Colin Montgomerie and Thomas Bjorn to win the Caltex Masters presented by Carlsberg Singapore 2005, jointly sanctioned by the Asian Tour and European Tour.
Dougherty held a one stroke lead with three to play but eventually secured a five stroke win thanks to two birdies in the final three holes. Dougherty finished 2004 in 360th place in the Official World Ranking and has now moved up almost 200 places to 163rd position.
Justin Leonard completed a three stroke victory in the Bob Hope Chrysler Classic with a five under par 67 in the final round played over the Palmer Course at PGA West. Leonard moves up 24 places to World Number 16 while Tim Clark followed last week’’s win in the South African Airways Open with tied second place with Joe Ogilvie. Clark is now World Number 38 and Ogilvie moves up to World Number 82.
Simon Wakefield, who earned his place at the Dimension Data Pro-Am via the Monday pre-qualifier, held on to win the championship by four shots from Nic Henning at Sun City on the Sunshine Tour. Wakefield improves his World Ranking by 172 places to 348th.
Vance Veazey won the BellSouth Panama Championship, the opening event of the 2005 Nationwide Tour Season, and climbs to World Number 533.
