Nicklaus' Grandson Dies in Accident

The 17-month-old grandson of Jack Nicklaus has died after a tragic accident in North Palm Beach, Florida.

Jake Walter Nicklaus, son of Steve and Krista Nicklaus, fell into a hot tub where he had earlier been playing with his 4-year-old-brother and their nanny on Tuesday, March 1.

All three had left the pool area, guarded by a child barrier, and gone indoors, but Jake slipped away unseen and went back to the garden through a sliding door.

He was quickly discovered in the pool by the nanny and was still breathing when rushed to the Palm Beach Medical Centre by a fire-rescue crew. He died just over an hour later.

George O’Grady, Executive Director of the European Tour, offered his immediate sympathy. “I know I speak for the whole Tour, and I am sure our thoughts will be shared by countless more throughout the golf world, when I say we feel from the heart for Steve and Krista, for Jack, and their families. Our condolences and our prayers go out to them all at this terribly tragic time.”
