Niclas Fasth Wins the RBS Shot of the Month Award for July

Sweden’’s Niclas Fasth has won the RBS Shot of the Month Award for July, collecting the RBS Shot of the Month trophy and a cheque for £1000 to donate to a charity of his choice.

Fasth was the choice of the voting panel for his outstanding bunker shot at the final hole of the Deutsche Bank Players’’ Championship of Europe at Gut Kaden. Having pulled his approach to the final hole into the back of a greenside bunker the Swede hit a magnificent bunker shot to within a few inches of the hole to secure a play-off with Angel Cabrera, which he subsequently won at the third extra hole.

In second place was Scotland’’s Colin Montgomerie, who found himself on the road behind the 17th green at the Old Course during the first round of The Open Championship. Montgomerie hit a wonderful ‘bump and run’’ approach to within a couple of feet to save par at one of the most famous holes in golf.

Cabrera featured in third place, the powerful Argentine launching a three wood second shot to within a few feet for an eagle at the 560 yard 13th hole in the final round of The Barclays Scottish Open at Loch Lomond.

The RBS Shot of the Month Award, in association with The European Tour, Sky Sports and The Daily Telegraph, is presented to the Tour Member for the shot judged to be the most outstanding played during each calendar month on The European Tour International Schedule. The winning shots from each month are entered towards the RBS Shot of the Year Award.

Other winners in 2005 have been Nick Dougherty (January), Miles Tunnicliff (February), Ernie Els (March and April), David Howell (May) and Michael Campbell (June).
