Niclas Fasth of Sweden has been named as the October winner of the RBS Shot of the Month Award by a panel comprising TV, radio and golfing media. The 34 year old receives the RBS Shot of the Month Trophy and a £1000 cheque to donate to a charity of his choice.
Fasth produced a stunning shot in the final round on his way to claiming his fifth European Tour title in the Mallorca Classic. With Sergio Garcia in close pursuit at Pula Golf Club, Fasth found himself in rough off the tee at the 14th hole, but drew the ball brilliantly over trees and across water to ten feet for a crucial birdie three.
In second place was Indian Jeev Milkha Singh’s six iron second shot to the par five 17th at Valderrama on his way to capturing the Volvo Masters, while in third was Padraig Harrington of Ireland, who played a deft 62 yard lob wedge to four feet for a par at the 72nd hole of the same tournament which secured his first European Tour Order of Merit title.
The RBS Shot of the Month Award, in association with The European Tour, Sky Sports and The Daily Telegraph, is presented to the Tour Member for the shot judged to be the most outstanding played during each calendar month on The European Tour International Schedule.
Previous winners this year have been Henrik Stenson of Sweden (January), Kevin Stadler of the United States (February), Paul Broadhurst of England (March), José Maria Olazábal of Spain (April), Darren Clarke of Northern Ireland (May), Scotland’s Colin Montgomerie (June), Ernie Els of South Africa (July), Scotland’s Marc Warren (August) and Paul Casey of England (September). Those winning monthly shots will be entered towards the RBS Shot of the Year Award, to be announced next month.
