First round leader Brian Davis of England has been forced to wait another day to resume his challenge in the Nissan Open after torrential rain on an already saturated Riviera Country Club course caused a four hour delay in Los Angeles.
With Davis unable to start his second round, American Chad Campbell took over the clubhouse lead, posting a six under par 65 for a nine under par total of 133, three clear of Australian Robert Allenby.
Northern Ireland’’s Darren Clarke, joint second after the first round, was also a late starter and completed only six holes in level par to remain five under par before darkness fell.
England’’s Luke Donald was lying alongside Clarke on five under after and opening 66 and was one of the few to complete their second rounds after going out in the second group out. But the Ryder Cup player was disappointed to add only a level par 71 for a five under total of 137 which left him four off the pace.
Donald birdied the third from four feet, but a bad tee shot cost him a shot on the short sixth, the hole Clarke aced in his first round.
Then came 12 pars in a row and he said: "It was a pretty boring round, but at least I get to sleep in tomorrow and I'm still in a good position."
