Noren surges into lead in Switzerland

Alex Noren turned in 30 to open up a two-shot lead midway through the final round of the Omega European Masters.

The Swede is in a fantastic vein of form with three top tens in his last five events, including a win at the Aberdeen Asset Management Scottish Open that was his fifth on the European Tour.

He came into the final round at Crans-sur-Sierre Golf Club a shot behind Scott Hend but five birdies on the front nine got him to 17 under and two ahead of the Australian.

Englishman Richard Bland was the third member of the final group and he was at 14 under, three shots clear of France's Julien Quesne.

The first used to play as a par five and is one of the toughest holes on the course but Noren put his approach to ten feet and rolled in a left-to-righter to quickly jump into a share of the lead.

Noren then needed a smart up and down to stay at 13 under on the third, while Bland made his first birdie of the day.

Bland - searching for a first win in his 390th event - gave the shot back on the next but then pitched in brilliantly for an eagle on the fifth, although he was two behind Hend who made a birdie to get to 14 under.

Noren got level with Hend from 15 feet on the sixth but Bland also holed from six feet to move within a shot of the summit himself.

All three men gave themselves chances on the driveabale seventh and Noren moved to 15 under as he got up and down while Bland joined Hend after driving the green.

It was a colossal battle between the top three and while they all once again had birdie chances on the par three eighth, Noren was the only one to take his from three feet and the lead was up to two.

The 34 year old made it four in a row on the next but Hend made his second gain of the day to keep the gap at two at the turn.

Frenchman Quesne turned in 33 but then made three birdies in a row from the 11th to surge through the field and sit a shot ahead of English duo Lee Westwood and Matthew Fitzpatrick.

Westwood made five birdies on the front nine to sit at ten under after 14 holes while Fitzpatrick continued his remarkable recovery from an opening 75 with six birdies in his first 16.

Oliver Fisher fired a 63 to set the clubhouse target at nine under.
