Norway Share lead in Davidoff Nations Cup

Norway share the lead at the halfway stage of the Davidoff Nations Cup at Royal Selangor Golf Club in Malaysia after adding a level par 72 in the foursomes to their opening fourball score of 60.

Henrik Bjornstad and Per Haugsrud combined for a 36 hole total of 132, 12 under par, to share the lead with the host nation, Malaysia, and China.

The top six finishers in the Davidoff Nations Cup will qualify for the World Golf Championships - EMC² World Cup at The Taiheiyo Golf Club in Japan from November 15-18.

The Norwegians, who held an overnight two shot lead, birdied the third but stumbled down the leaderboard with four successive dropped shots from the seventh to tenth holes. But Haugsrud and Bjornstad salvaged their card with some spectacular birdies. At the par three 14th, Haugsrud hit a four iron to 15 feet which Bjornstad holed and they celebrated another high at the 16th when Bjornstad holed a monster 60 foot putt for birdie.

"We hung in there," said Haugsrud. "We knew we could make birdies on the back nine. The one at the 14th was the key. We feel good heading into the weekend."

Malaysian duo Danny Chia and P. Gunasegaran combined brilliantly to shoot a six under par 66 to share of the halfway lead.

Chia and Gunasegaran raised the local cheer, mixing their second round with an eagle, six birdies and two bogeys in the foursomes format.

China's number one Zhang Lian-wei and Liang Wen-chong scrambled to a two under par 70 to join the leaders.

Filipino duo Rodrigo Cuello and Danny Zarate are two shots behind the joint leaders after a 70 while Korea's Kang Wook-soon and Choi Gwang-soo hauled themselves into World Cup contention by moving to fifth place after a 69.
