George O’Grady CBE, Chief Executive of The European Tour, was the recipient of a Lifetime Achievement Award at the tenth KPMG Golf Business Forum in St Andrews this week.
O’Grady was presented with the award in recognition of outstanding achievement and leadership in both the game and the business of golf, by Andrea Sartori, the head of KPMG’s Golf Advisory Practice in EMA.
“I am extremely honoured to receive this award which I feel is on behalf of the members and staff of The European Tour and all the many bodies around the world who have contributed to our success,” said O’Grady.
“It was also a great pleasure to receive the award in Scotland at a Forum hosted by Visit Scotland, our strongest partners in the upcoming Ryder Cup at Gleneagles in 2014.
“The Forum itself was immensely valuable with its mix of countries, tourist boards, venues, course designers, event sponsors and future technology partners, all of whom were united in their wish to find the right way to enrich and develop this great game in which we are involved.”
Also recognised with a Lifetime Achievement Award was Tim Finchem, Commissioner of the PGA Tour, who gave his thanks via a video link to the delegates at the Fairmont St Andrews Hotel.
O’Grady and Finchem added their names to an illustrious list of previous recipients that includes Jack Nicklaus, Greg Norman, Arnold Palmer, Gary Player and former European Tour Executive Director Ken Schofield, as well as visionary business leaders Dr David Chu and Dana Garmany.
